NHS Dentistry is in crisis,
Latest figures show that less than half the population is registered with an NHS dentist. Many people report not being able to find a dentist near where they live. Others find that their dentist has decided to go private and they are removed from the register. Some people have to travel miles to find a dentist. This is particularly hard for people in rural areas who do not have a car. More Hidden Tory Tax - Are you paying it? EHDC Tories promised to control council spending and keep the annual increase in Council Tax to 2.5%. Did they do it? They say, yes - but Cllr Peter Rodgers’ investigations reveal that they have actually increased the tax burden on a significant section of the public. Since taking control of the council in 1999, the Tories have hiked Parking Charges well over the inflation rate. They are using a profit of around half a million a year to hide the fact that they have actually increased spending by some 7% over their 2.5% Tax. More to Come The Tories also promise annual Parking Season Ticket increases, completely unjustified, hitting those who unavoidably have to park and work in Petersfield and Alton, because they can’t rely on public transport. Councillor presses for improvements to crime magnet alleyway
Alton Councillor Robert Saunders continues to press for the district council to clean up a problem alleyway and adjoining derelict land between Anstey Lane and Dove Court. The alleyway and old dairy site has been a magnet for crime, anti-social behaviour, overgrown hedges and rubbish dumping which has caused problems for those who use the alley and local residents. Cllr Saunders said “closure of this important thoroughfare is not an option but the residents of the area have a right to safety”.
As Liberal Democrats we believe in the National Health Service and we want to see it prosper. But this also means pointing out where Labour's reforms are harming the NHS. To help improve the NHS we need to hear from patients who have difficulty accessing treatment and from professionals prevented from providing the services the community needs.
